Position Summary
Based out of Halifax, NS at Scotia Square Mall, the Intern, Engineering will assist with the oversight of complex capital repairs and will support a key infrastructure project at Scotia Square. This role offers real-world engineering experience in a commercial property setting and collaborates with experienced professionals in facilities management and engineering. While developing valuable industry skills, the Intern, Engineering will work on significant capital repair projects at one of Halifax’s premier properties. Additional duties of the Intern, Engineering include but are not limited to:
- Assists in coordinating contractors for capital projects
- Conducts building system and deficiency reviews
- Supports design and tender review processes, providing recommendations
- Completes deficiency review
- Performs property site inspections to ensure project quality and compliance
- Assists in the creation and management of Request for Proposals (RFPs) for capital projects
- Communicates project updates to tenants and stakeholders
- Participates in identifying and addressing structural concerns or repairs as needed
- Assists in preparing engineering reports, drawings, and technical documentation for ongoing projects
- Assists in reviewing and assessing utility optimization opportunities.
- Engages across all levels of the organization to create and promote a safe and respectful work environment.
- Other special projects and tasks as assigned.
The profile we are looking for
- Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Prior experience or coursework related to building systems, construction management, or project oversight is an asset.
- Candidates enrolled in a co-op program will be considered a strong asset.
- Able to arrive at a job location and commit to 4 months full-time contract employment from May until the end of August.
