Position Summary

Based out of New Glasgow, Halifax or Mississauga, the Director, Finance Business Partnering is responsible for providing purpose-driven financial planning, reporting, analytics, and insights, at the right time, to inform strategy, enable decision-making, and drive performance. The role will foster strong working relationships, demonstrating agility, real estate, and technical/financial knowledge to support the achievement of Crombie’s objectives and measures of success. Additional duties of the Director, Finance Business Partnering include but are not limited to:

  • Partners with key leaders across the organization to deliver accurate and actionable ongoing financial analysis of the organization’s potential and performance, demonstrating objectivity, independence and clarity to ensure all decisions and actions taken are ‘the right ones’ for long term business performance.
  • Provides purpose-driven reporting and financial analysis that is concise, relevant, and draws out actionable insights enabling department leadership to effectively manage the business, while also promoting consistency at the enterprise level.
  • Acts as a Business Partner providing direction, support, and financial oversight to ensure alignment on process and methodology and a consistent and accurate financial ‘story’ throughout all reports and audiences.
  • Cultivates a deep understanding of Crombie, real estate, and the financial landscape to track financial performance, enable creative solutions, and provide actionable insights to help the organization achieve its goals.
  • Builds models and proformas, conducts trend analyses, provides forecasting, and reviews departmental initiatives and strategies to identify risks and opportunities and puts forth recommendations aligned to strategy and measures of success.
  • Proactively anticipates reporting requirements based on strategy, corporate and departmental objectives, or other changes, developing a trusted financial advisor relationship with Executive, senior leadership, and key departments.
  • Partners with Financial Analysis & Treasury teammates to develop efficient, automated, and multi-dimensional reporting/dashboards to adapt the evolving analytics needs of the organization.
  • Leads the organization and preparation of MD&A reporting of leasing and development activities (i.e., in-planning, under construction, etc.), collaborating with Analytics Team as required to ensure alignment and completeness of information across functions.
  • Reviews and vets models developed within the Analytics function, at the outset and at key milestones, aligning and signing off on the model to support senior leadership and Board decision-making and inform external audiences.
  • Ensures efficient, best-in-class operational reporting that is standardized across the country (Leasing, Occupancy, Financial, LUI, Development, etc.).
  • Takes ownership of the ongoing analysis and tracking of project costs to enable operations to complete complex project agreements required for development.
  • Reviews due diligence requests relative to new projects and acquisitions, ensuring robust financial and operational risk assessments and reviews are in place to stress test models and minimize risk to the business as a result of deferred maintenance, environmental issues, and so forth.
  • Understands the dynamics driving profitability, identifies “at risk” or underperforming markets/portfolios/processes and reports on applicable trends, developing recommendations and implementing action plans.
  • Performs ad hoc financial analyses to enable all aspects of the business and plays a critical role in preparing various presentations to the Board, senior leadership, and other key stakeholders.
  • Works with key departments, leaders and Financial Analysis Teammates to ensure robust, accurate and timely monthly reporting packages for Executive Committee.
  • People leadership:
    • Ensures all team members have a clear understanding of corporate and departmental objectives, and are held accountable to meet performance standards and objectives
    • Contributes to a team that is strategically aligned with and understands the organization’s strategy, is engaged, and represents Crombie guiding values.
  • Engages across all levels of the organization to create and promote a safe and respectful work environment.
  • Other special projects and tasks as assigned.

The profile we are looking for

Our ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field; MBA, CPA, CBV, CFA or other relevant designation preferred. They have at least seven (7) years of experience in financial planning and analysis roles, with progressive leadership responsibilities, and strong proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting techniques, and advanced Excel skills; experience with financial planning software is an asset. The successful candidate also has a deep understanding of financial statements, key performance indicators, and business metrics, with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights. They have excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of driving process improvements and delivering results, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and influence decision-making at all levels of the organization. The successful candidate has demonstrated leadership capabilities, with experience leading and developing high-performing teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Current or previous experience in real estate is considered a strong asset.
