Position Summary

Based out of New Glasgow or Halifax, NS, the Property Accountant is responsible for providing the financial management on a portfolio of commercial real estate properties. Additional duties of the Property Accountant include but are not limited to:

  • Prepares monthly/quarterly financial statements, management reports and working papers in support of quarterly and annual regulatory filings and annual audit.
  • Assists in the preparation of operating and fiscal budgets.
  • Reviews accounting records and ensuring the accuracy of reported financial results.
  • Resolves account discrepancies.
  • Maintains ledgers, preparing and posting journal entries.
  • Assists in the preparation of annual tenant recoveries.
  • Assists in month and year-end processes, including cost accruals, prepaids, and straight line rent.
  • Maintains excellent working relationships with operational field staff and other corporate departments while working with various departments such as Leasing, Legal, Operations, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, etc.
  • Coordinates monthly property management meetings and providing accounting advice as required.
  • Engages across all levels of the organization to create and promote a safe and respectful work environment.
  • Other special projects and tasks as assigned.

The profile we are looking for

  • 2-5 years of related experience in a professional environment with a post-secondary degree in Accounting.
  • CPA, CMA or CA designation (completed or in progress) is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving skills, and ability to manage a complex workload and prioritize appropriately.
  • Experience in Microsoft Suite, specifically Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience with real estate accounting software (CTI or Yardi) would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and superior communication skills both verbally and written.
  • Commitment to Environmental, Social, and (Corporate) Governance responsibilities.
