Position Summary
Based out of New Glasgow or Halifax, NS, the Internal Auditor is responsible for delivering on the annual internal audit plan including the 52-109 CEO/CFO certification program as well as operational audits, testing and improvements on a quarterly and annual basis. Additional duties of the Internal Auditor include but are not limited to:
- Actively support the Internal Audit team in delivering the 52-109 CEO/CFO Certification program.
- Conducting business process reviews to evaluate the design and effectiveness of internal controls for various departments to update and reduce risks, improve controls and control test procedures as needed.
- Execute financial business process control testing, according to the annual audit plan.
- Plan and execute IT General Control testing, according to the annual audit plan.
- Work collaboratively with internal departments and process owners in their development of action plans to address root causes of deficiencies and improve effectiveness of controls.
- Support scoping, planning and reporting processes related to the 52-109 program.
- Assist in the planning of risk-based Operational Audits, including but not limited to:
- Defining audit scope
- Identifying and documenting risks and controls
- Designing control test procedures
- Execute audit fieldwork evaluating control design and operating effectiveness, identifying process and control gaps in a timely manner.
- Assists with the preparation of formal audit and reviewing reports and presents audit findings and recommendations.
- Engages across all levels of the organization to create and promote a safe and respectful work environment.
- Other special projects and tasks as assigned.
The profile we are looking for
- 2-5 years of related experience in a professional environment with a post-secondary degree in accounting.
- CPA, CMA or CA designation (completed or in progress) is considered an asset.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving skills, and ability to manage a complex workload and prioritize appropriately.
- Experience in Microsoft Suite, specifically Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Demonstrated professionalism and superior communication skills both verbally and written.
- Commitment to Environmental, Social, and (Corporate) Governance responsibilities.
- Experience working in Internal Audit, Audit consulting practice, Public Accounting, and/or Internal Controls over Financial Reporting, including IT General Controls, with a strong risk-based audit foundation.
- Knowledge of audit, accounting, governance and control frameworks including, IIA Standards, IFRS and COSO.
- Knowledge of Regulations, in particular NI 52-109, is considered an asset.
